Frequently asked questions
What is ROI?
Return on Investment measures how much you gained (or lost) relative to what you invested. Formula: (Final Value - Initial - Costs) / Initial × 100. A 50% ROI means you made half your investment back as profit.
What is annualized ROI?
Total ROI compressed into a per-year figure using compound growth: (Final/Initial)^(1/years) - 1. Lets you compare investments of different durations. A 30% return over 3 years annualizes to about 9% per year.
Should I include costs?
Yes. Real ROI accounts for transaction fees, taxes, maintenance, and any other costs. Excluding them overstates your return.
What is a good ROI?
Depends on the risk. Savings: 3-5%. Stocks (long term): 7-10% annualized. Real estate: 8-12%. Business/startups: much higher but far riskier. Always compare against inflation.
