Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the US Navy method?
Within 3-4% for most people. Not as precise as DEXA scans or hydrostatic weighing (the gold standards), but way more accurate than BMI and free — perfect for tracking progress over time.
How do I measure correctly?
Neck: just below Adam's apple, tape parallel to floor. Waist: at your belly button, relaxed (do NOT suck in). Hip (women): widest point of hips. Use a soft tape, snug but not tight.
What is a healthy body fat range?
Men: 10-20% is good, 6-13% is athletic. Women: 18-28% is good, 14-20% is athletic. Under 6% (men) or 14% (women) can be dangerous.
Is this medical advice?
No. This is a general fitness tool. For medical body composition assessment, see a doctor or get a DEXA scan.
